NCIC recognises Governor Khalif’s role in fostering peace, inclusion, and cross-border harmony.

Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif has been honoured with the 2025 National Cohesion Award by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for his exemplary leadership in promoting peace, inclusion, and cross-border harmony in the region.

The prestigious award was officially presented during the Mashujaa Day celebrations held in Mandera on Monday, in recognition of the Governor’s efforts to unite communities across the historically volatile border counties of Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia.

Governor Khalif was lauded for implementing grassroots peacebuilding initiatives, enhancing inter-clan dialogue, and fostering partnerships with neighbouring regional governments to strengthen security and social cohesion.

In a statement, NCIC praised the Mandera County leadership for “demonstrating practical commitment to reconciliation and inclusive governance,” noting that Khalif’s administration has become “a model for peaceful coexistence in multi-ethnic and cross-border contexts.”

Receiving the award, Governor Khalif dedicated the honour to the people of Mandera, saying it reflected their resilience and commitment to peace.

“This recognition belongs to the people of Mandera. It is a testament to our collective choice to embrace peace over division and to build bridges across our communities and borders,” Khalif said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining long-term peace and inclusive development through dialogue, youth empowerment, and equitable resource sharing.

The award underscores Mandera’s transformation from a conflict-prone frontier to a growing hub of cooperation and integration in the Horn of Africa.
