Isiolo South Member of Parliament Tubi Bidu Mohamed has died at Nairobi Hospital after a prolonged illness, the National Assembly confirmed on Wednesday evening. He was 52.

The first-term lawmaker, elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket during the August 2022 General Election, passed away around 6:30 p.m., according to parliamentary sources and close associates.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula broke the news to members, expressing “profound sorrow” over the loss.

“It is with deep sorrow that I inform the House of the untimely passing of the Member of Parliament for Isiolo South Constituency, Hon. Tubi Bidu Mohamed,” Wetang’ula said.

He described the late MP as “a remarkable leader whose dedication and service left a positive impact on our nation.”

Wetang’ula extended condolences to Tubi’s family, friends, and constituents, adding:

“As we come to terms with this great loss, let us remember Hon. Tubi for his outstanding service to his people. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Tubi, a vocal advocate for arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL) communities, had served in Parliament since September 2022. He was a member of the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry and Mining and the Public Petitions Committee, where he championed oversight on environmental policy and public grievances, particularly those affecting marginalized regions like Isiolo County.

Before joining national politics, Tubi was the inaugural Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly from 2013 to 2017, where he played a key role in establishing the devolved unit’s legislative foundation.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, a close ally and fellow leader from northern Kenya, mourned his passing on social media:

“It is with heavy hearts that I announce the passing of my brother and colleague, Hon. Mohamed Tubi, MP for Isiolo South, who succumbed after a long illness. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Isiolo South.”

Leaders from across the Kenya Kwanza coalition and the opposition also paid tribute, praising Tubi’s humility and commitment to the development and peace of northern Kenya.

Tributes continued to pour in late into the night, reflecting the respect he commanded across political and ethnic lines as a bridge-builder in a region often marked by tension and neglect.
